Musings on a Hot Afternoon

There was this younger mother telling her son about the ‘sexiness’ of an older woman. The three-almost-four year old only stared at the older woman probably confused.  The older woman thought it was a compliment until the mother of the young boy said,  “He is a conservative boy, you know, he does not like seeing women with short dresses and blouses exposing flesh.”  The older woman became suddenly aware that her blouse, which is a petite black blouse, probably is exposing a little flesh.  The get-up was not at all scandalous and inappropriate to the woman’s age, it was just a normal weekend apparel.  What harm could a pair of cargo pants and petite blouse do to a boy of three and a half?  The older woman asked in return, “How old are you, little boy?” The boy gestured three.  “Do you know the word conservative?”  The boy gave her a confused look again.  Then the mother suddenly told the son that the older woman is sexy because her tummy is showing.  The boy giggled innocently, not saying anything bad but “Your pants is falling!”

I just couldn’t get this scenario off my mind.  Parents are responsible in the molding of young minds.  What children become is a large chunk of thoughts, ideas, concepts, etc. coming from their parents.  It makes me sad how some parents can thwart young and innocent minds.  It makes me wonder still how I fared when the children were still young.

An exchange of thoughts about Manny losing with a FB friend transpired.  In his line of thoughts he mentioned “God chose Bradley to win” plus another line that says “It is time for Manny to pause and realize he had to be serious with God now than in boxing. Otherwise, he will get seriously hurt.”

I do not intend to question God because it is not like I heard God saying “I chose Bradley to win”.  It is one of another man’s interpretation of the situation because of Pacquiao’s claim being spiritual or close to God.  I said my piece telling “I just couldn’t understand God allowing such a win for Bradley when it’s obvious for many that it was Pacquiao who won…. I could understand it if he truly lose, I mean, knocked out to the ground, received more hard blows”.

At times, it is not easy dealing with thoughts that God can allow bad things to happen for one person to learn of God and his precepts.  I could understand though an individual receiving hard blows in life because he had done things not in accordance to God’s law as punishment, or reprimand.  Am I making my point here?

Just a while ago, two young boys were fist fighting, the smaller one more brave than the bigger one.  The bigger boy was a son of a house tenant who was currently playing mah jong.  It caught me and my daughter’s attention when he was yelling and coaxing his son to give a punch.  We hurried outside and saw that his son was actually receiving all the blows.  I was worried and was telling Papsie to let the melee stop and he replied they do not want to stop.  I yelled at the little boy to stop but the father of the bigger boy was yelling not to stop them and he was like infuriated that his son was not giving a fight. Weird father.  I can see the makings of a gangster, or a future delinquent.

Kay approached the smaller boy and told him to go home.  He looked like he was about to go to a fight any minute again but he obliged and went away but the bigger boy suddenly wanted to give a blow and Kay was stopping and asking Papsie to stop the boys.  The bigger boy suddenly became brave. It was a case of “lalong nanggigil habang pinipigil”.  He must have misinterpreted Kay’s rescue.

Society has this mercenary culture in producing villains, bandits, or criminals.

In Fairness to Pacquiao

Papsie together with his brothers listened to live airing of the Pacquiao-Marquez fight via the radio.  There was a live tv airing at the basketball court, too.  Some of the neighbors were there.

Papsie and his brothers learned of the win before the neighbors came.  When they arrived, most of them were saying that it should not be Pacquiao who won, that Marquez should have the belt, that Pacquiao was bloodied, etc. etc.  In defense of Pacquiao and based on Trinidad’s comment on the radio, Papsie and his brother said that a win is a win; it is the judges’ call.  His brother even said that if it is a win for Trinidad, then it is a win, because he is a very good sports analyst, and that he could have said that Manny has no chances anymore.  Though I do not agree that listening to a respected sports analyst is enough to draw a conclusion,  I insisted, when Papsie went inside the house, that he should watch the fight first before siding with Pacquiao, or ‘remain loyal’ to Pacquiao. 😀

We were about to leave to the supermarket.  Papsie still has to shower so I switched on the tv and watched but it was already round 8.  There I saw on the first half how Marquez transformed into a strong fighter, and a fierce one at that.  Manny’s jaw flew when he received the upper cut from Marquez.  It was followed by several blows that really affected Manny.  When it was Manny’s turn, his punches seemed not to have an effect at all. I got scared.  I said to myself that ‘if this continues, Manny will loose.’  Then on the second half, the table turned.  Manny must have thought that he could not afford to just relinquish the title like that.  He was on the offensive suddenly and managed to only throw understated punches.  From round 9 up, it was Manny’s game because Marquez was just waiting and it was Manny who seem to always start the fight.  As a challenger, Marquez failed at this point though strength wise, he can fight.

Marquez also seemed to learn about Manny Pacquiao’s moves that made it difficult for Manny. He was also persistent and unyielding every time Manny attacked.  Was Marquez underestimated? Are there other factors that affected Manny’s delivery?  I was listening to someone say that he might have burnt out because of too much training.  Perhaps it can be a factor but I know many will agree that this is not the delivery that the crowd expected.  That was not the same Manny in the ring.  His timing was off and the level of delivery was low.

But in fairness to Pacquiao, he always wanted to give a good fight for the audience and when Marquez seemed to have cowered, he attacked probably because he was thinking it was not fair for the viewers to watch a boring fight when Marquez will just stand there waiting for him and only in defense.  He fights not for the title alone but for the viewers.  That is self-explanatory, I guess.  Who would want to disappoint the millions that spend money to watch a bout?  Who would want to lose the fans when every body else seem fan-atic, and are always willing to save a penny for these fights?  Who would want to lose everything?

In fairness to him, he is still the humble Filipino boxer who has compassion for his opponent and never fails to say something good about him.    And before I forgot, he had improved expressing himself.

If You Are Jinkee Pacquiao

Stumbled upon an interview with Jinkee Pacquiao by Thea Alberto.  In her interview, Jinkee on Krista:  Giving Up Because of Her is Not Worth It, Jinkee has this to say (translated in English):

There is just so much intrigue, and there are times where you feel like giving up. But we can’t allow it, and we shouldn’t allow it. Giving up because of women like her is not worth it.

I believe that every wife for that matter would not give up on her husband easily, much more on someone like Manny Pacquiao. Admit or not, the champion is a prized catch. To split up marriage with him, or simply annul it, will cost any wife regret.  Admit or not.

In fairness to Manny, he had stood many times for his wife, and was able to show the world that he loves his wife.  He might have gone astray for a while, and might have ‘tolerated’ a woman like Krista, or whoever,  for reasons only he knows, but still he clung to his wife.  He is still with his wife and not with any other woman.  No one really knows what is happening between them but the fact that he chose to be with his wife is what matters.

It would be a different story if he flaunts his machismo, or if he physically abuses his wife, or talks openly about his affairs on television or any other media.  That would definitely pose another scenario.

I would have other questions in my mind though:

  • What if Manny admitted doing it with another woman, or to having a one night stand with another?  With a status like Manny’s, I believe that women will gather like bees each with desire to bed him, seriously or not.
  • What if Manny confessed that he fell for another, like being still in love until the time he confessed?  Which is not impossible,  but will still fall under temptation, which could be mistaken as falling in love.  There will always be a thin line between love and lust.
  • What if Manny has a love child that will suddenly appear and will be proven that the child was truly his?  Now, this bit of news had surfaced before and was gone after a few blinks.  It just proved it was not true.  But who says it is not possible?

Congratulations, Pacman!

Manny Pacquiao never ceases to amaze the world with his prowess, speed and confidence. Manny said Cotto will not be an easy fight as he had said before the bout. And it was not really one easy fight with Cotto. But it turned out that Manny is still the best pound for pound fighter. His opponent failed to find a way to resolve his speed and strategy. Cotto was swollen and bleeding after the 12th round.

Listening to the radio in the morning brought excitement to the crowd and in the afternoon, watching the fight brought more excitement. I wished we could have watched the fight live. It could have made Papsie shouting more with joy. But alas, we could not afford the trip to Las Vegas and the stay in Las Vegas hotels. We could only watch the fight in the television with the many ads in between!

Anyway, this is not about me but about the unbeatable Manny Pacquiao. I just hope he stops boxing though a lot still wants him to fight with Mayweather. It is always better to leave in the middle of stardom.
