Finally!

We are currently riding HIGH. Finally, it’s Daryl’s high school graduation. He graduated last March 28, 2008 and he is in the top 5 of the class. He had also received awards such as Best in English and Best in EP.

We are currently feeling HIGH.  He did not fail us.  Check this out to have a peek of all of the graduation photos and where I treated them after the program.

Photohunt is giving me a HIGH feeling , too. Every Saturday is a challenge.

Let Us Not Forget About the News

Local News

Do you know that it always makes me unhappy to hear news about the Philippines? Here’s another – even Yahoo Asia News Philippines has this disadvantageous headlines. Only one of them seemed like good news but it’s good news only to a limited fragment of the country.

Philippines to get own Playboy, but no nudes

MANILA (AFP) – The Philippines will get its own edition of Playboy magazine — only without the nudity that made the US version famous, the editor-in-chief of the local edition said Thursday.

The Philippine edition will be launched on April 2 as a “mature lifestyle magazine”, said veteran journalist Beting Laygo Dolor. While the magazine will offer pictorials of beautiful women, it will not include nudity. “It will be tamer than the US edition but not as tame as the Indonesian edition,” Lagyo Dolor said in a television interview. (more…)

How can this one bit of news rectify the damaging truth in the following list of news in the Philippines this week?

Philippines’ Aquino, democracy icon, has cancer

(And her daughter said it like it was more a celebrated issue than a sad news.)

Philippine militant group may be using drug money

(Is there something new? Everything is possible in the Philippines. Or this can be another one of those accusations just to discredit another?)

Singapore court blocks Marcos funds transfer to Philippines

(Maybe they are worried that these will go to the pockets of only a few named crocodiles.)

Imports Rice Amid Shortage

(Talk about appointees and their cohorts.)

Muslim rebels accuse Manila of delaying peace talks

(Do these rebels really need peace talks?)

Philippine ex-general faces corruption charges

(I wonder how many are like him in the military? Depressing, indeed.)

Philippines Deaths Need Scrutiny

(Extra judicial killings are irresolvable. A sad fact but very true.)

International News

This news made me sad, too, in a different level somehow.

`American Idol’ axes another contestant

NEW YORK – Uneasy lies Chikezie, who won’t wear the crown. The one-name singer — who previously worked security at Los Angeles International Airport — was eliminated from as the show narrowed the competition to nine finalists. (more..)

Why Chikezie? Why not Kristie Lee Cook? I had long wished that she will finally be eliminated. Among the group, she is the least when it comes to talent. Some of those who were previously axed are even better.

Are You Ready?

I am actually not a lover of gambling though I know the basics. Teach me and I can even beat you. I do not have difficulty learning this feat, if you can call it that. I am not an enthusiast but I know how to play mah jong, pusoy, pusoy 2, tong-its, to name a few. It (the addiction) just didn’t get into my system.Thank God. 🙂

Because I believe in my self-assessment when it comes to learning without that much difficulty, I know that online casino games will not be hard to learn at all. I find it amusing that this particular site even offers online gambling tips. To wrap it up, here they are:

  1. Do not simply jump in and play at every casino you like the look of.
  2. Do not take the bait of just simply depositing hiuge amounts of money. Use their demo games and welcome bonus to get the most out of your time.
  3. Learn when to stop, win or loose, and take a breather.
  4. Learn when you’re beat.
  5. Start on low bet games only.
  6. Play only online games that you know very well.

Here is my own version of gambling tips:

  1. Accord only enough money when you play. This means only bring with you money that you can afford to loose.
  2. Pee when you feel like. Eat when you feel like. This will help you assess if you are still willing to go and bet, and think if you can afford to loose much.
  3. Think of your wife, your kids, and the family expenses. That will help you draw the line.
  4. Think about that new sneakers, or watch, or game accessory, or state-of-the-art accouterments, you have been meaning to buy one day.
  5. And last but not the least, think about tomorrow and how you will start a day without a penny in your pocket.

That’s all folks! 😀.

tahoooo.jpg

This is all I can contribute for today’s Photohunt theme. It is a taho container (made of silver-white aluminum) brought along by taho vendors while calling on customers in various pitches of ‘Tahoooo!!!!” For the benefit of those who do not know what a taho is, here is feature from Wikipedia:

Tahô is a Philippine snack food made of fresh soft/silken tofu, arnibal (brown sugar syrup), and sago “pearls” (similar to tapioca pearls).[1] This staple comfort food is a signature sweet and can be found all over the country. The Indonesian and Malaysian equivalent of this dish is Tahu.[2]

Enjoy your taho, I mean your photohunting, folks!

Is Your Credit Still Good?

Aside from pondering about life’s mysteries and realities this Lenten season (and which had offered us a four-day respite from the mediocrity of it all), the holiday gave me time to think about my reputation on solvency and probity. I believe that I, because of an inner voice not to be, am still honest when it comes to payment of debts. In believing, I have to maintain my ability to pay all debts and financial obligations. Sometimes it’s a difficult situation, considering the fact that I bear the sole responsibility when it comes to these matters. When resources are ample it will surely not be a problem at all. But life is hard for me, for now, with some expectations not materializing and some big dreams not coming in full view.

With these things in mind, I took interest in writing something about the likelihood of jumping into bad credit loans. This is really a fifty-fifty especially when you are in a bad financial situation, and nothing or nobody is available to help. One tends to grab any credit opportunity or offer to solve a financial problem. In dire situations like this, we cannot simply blame anyone who pulls in such an offer without really making a study. The ambiguity of it all is why someone will put himself in a much, much difficult situation. Well, perhaps we are in no position to criticize because only the person in such a situation could justify his acts, not unless there is really reason to condemn. There are of course individuals who grab credit offers without intentions of paying. Such lowlifes exist, you know.

I discovered as I browsed from my Smorty offers that there is one credible and dependable solution to those who are in current financial dilemmas. I am not actually aware if there are consumer resources like Bad Credit Offers in the Philippines. It is basically a guide to bad credit. What interested me the most aside from offers of credit cards, home loans, auto loans and personal loans is the credit repair link. Individuals who are currently in bad debt situation can choose to have their credits reviewed and reconstructed so that it could be easier for them to pay. Not a bad try after all.

Insatiable

Genetic Disorder

As I was watching CSI on DVD, a case featured a man found dead in a hamper with mashed potatoes in his hand, with 20+ kilos of hotdog in his stomach, and even a piece of paper in his stomach about a buffet offer. The man was found to have Prader-Willi syndrome. His behavior of insatiable hunger gave the clue to find out why he had odd eating behaviors.

Prader-Willi syndrome is a genetic disorder of chromosome 15. There are many sites that give explanation and support to those afflicted and to their family. Prader-Willi Syndrome Association is one of these sites. It mentioned things about PWS:

  • A disorder of chromosome 15
  • Prevalence: 1:12,000- 15,000 (both sexes, all races)
  • Major characteristics:

  1. hypotonia – a condition of low muscle tone
  2. hypogonadism – a medical term for a defect of the reproductive system that results in lack of function of the gonads (ovaries or testes)
  3. hyperphagia – excessive eating
  4. cognitive impairment
  5. difficult behaviors

  • Major medical concern: morbid obesity

Intellectual Honesty

Intellectual honesty is defined as honesty in the acquisition, analysis, and transmission of ideas. Now, is it right to say that those who hunger for the truth are intellectually honest people? It is easy to say that a student who does not cheat is intellectually honest, or those who do not plagiarize are intellectually honest people. But what about today’s events where people are involved in the quest for truth. Is there intellectual honesty in them, when some ‘generalize from incomplete information‘, and some ‘overlook alternative explanations‘?

Sex Addiction

We all view sex differently. That is a known fact. But sometimes it makes me wonder how a sex addict’s insatiability dominates his/her person. When we feel the urge to do it with a partner or with somebody, the feeling is truly intense it makes one almost forget his or her being. Now, I wonder about the degree or intensity of a sex addict’s drive that makes him/her do something out of the ordinary for sex.

Ashop Commerce

ashop.jpg

Two friends are talking about doing business online.

Friend A: Why don’t you try an ecommerce software like Ashop?

Friend B: Ecommerce software? Is that the same as a shopping cart software a friend told me the other day?

Friend A: It’s the same thing, It’s a shopping cart where you create your online store with a minimum monthly investment. The one I mentioned – Ashop – has features that are easy to explore. A lot of people had been doing business thru Ashop. If you are interested, it offers a ten-day trial. It would not hurt you to try.

Friend B: How did you know all this?

Friend A: I had built an online store last month. I started viewing their demo stores and from there, I created my online store.

Friend B: Amazing! I heard of these before and I wonder if my friend was talking about Ashop Commerce. He mentioned one can also do purchase of products there. I remember he mentioned that set up was easy and they also provide inventory control, layouts and designs and payment options. Pretty cool stuff for me. 🙂

Friend A: That must be Ashop that he was talking about. So, do you wanna try it out?

Friend B: I’ll give it a shot. I’ll set up mine tonight. I have already a list of products to sell. I have a contact who is willing to be my partner in my business endeavor.

Friend A: Good! Tell me about it when you’re done.

Touched by an Angel…

daryl.jpg

Me? I’m just, well, ME.
And, if you want to know me, PRY deeper.

I am not perfect. But, no one’s perfect, after all.
And that’s the beauty in humanity, that there’s no perfection.
If there ever is perfection, then life would be dull.

I am fat. I am not handsome. But then, I’m human.
And not all humans are gifted with physical beauty.
But there is, in all humans, a potential to be beautiful spiritually.
And that’s what I strive to be.

I am lazy, and I am not THAT studious.
But I am conscious of my grades. That, I would admit.
Yeah, I know it’s a turn-off, but then, at least I know I am.
Not like other people out there.

I am a clumsy guy.
I’m not organized.
I’m not tidy.
But I’m working on it.

I believe in GOD, but I am not very religious.
I believe that it is our freedom to choose our beliefs and
that it is not for us to impose our own beliefs on others.
I do not want to be a bigot.

I understand that not all things would go my way.
And that I cannot please each and every person.

Knowledge may be well and good, but too much of it is not.

I am a lover of words, and through words, I can express myself.
I am a lover of talking, though I am not the best speaker out there.

I am one who has simple joys in life.
Texting. Surfing the net, eating…
Things like that.

It is not my desire to be talked about.
Much less, to be talked about in a degrading manner.
But then, when I think about it,
Don’t we all talk about our fellow men and women?

I once loved to write.
I want to love writing again.

I have never been in love, but then I believe that love is the
most powerful emotion in the world.
I am a listener when it comes to love. I listen to the stories
of those people who have experienced love first-hand.
Only time, and God, can tell when I’d cease to be a listener,
and become a lover.

But love is not limited to that kind of love alone.
Of course, I love my family.
To them I owe my foundation.
And, I love my friends.
To them I owe part of who I am.
Above all, I love GOD.
To Him I owe my family and my friends.
To Him I owe everything.

There would always be someone greater than myself.
That I believe.

And I do believe that LIFE is made for living.
SO, NEVER attempt to throw it away.

My son’s description of himself at Friendster. I felt touched. I feel proud to have a son like him. 🙂
